What do you mean I need surgery....?

Time waits for no one.

“What are you doing here? You’re so young!?” Exclaimed the surgeon as she walked into my room.

::inwardly rolling my eyes:: “yeah you’d wonder that wouldn’t you?”

I’m only 33...

Sure.

At SOME point you expect to have serious medical things going on in your body.

But not yet.

Not now…

I’m ONLY 33...

15 years ago I was struggling with an irregular period and my gyno recommended hormonal birth control.

A year or two later I was still struggling so I was told to just go ahead and take it consistently. The joy of no periods for years was glorious. No anxiety about social embarrassment, no horrid cramping, no any other dumb period side effects, no expensive supplies to be used and trashed every month. It was great.

Fast forward to fall 2021. Severe side/stomach pain. Did I pull a muscle? Is it gas? Reflux? I’ll wait a few days to see if it subsides.

It subsided. For a time.

The pain kept coming back off and on until finally my anxiety got the better of me and in February I had my dear sweet husband take me to Urgent Care.

Doctor: “If I do tests here you’ll have to wait a few days for results, or you can go to the ER to have them all done now.”

::moves to the ER::

“All of your tests are coming back completely normal! Every thing looks good so far!”

Okay....

::looks at latest test results posted online::

::anxiety intensifies::

Doctor comes back. “Oh are you ok? You seem like you’ve been crying? By the way there’s two lesions on your liver and one is very large. Here’s a referral.” O.0

WHAT? Lesions. Masses. Growths. On my liver.

No, not me. It can’t be. This has to be a dream.

I’m only 33…..

::googles everything online::

Oh the itchy eczema I’ve been dealing with for years could be an indicator of liver health?

Hormonal Birth control can cause liver lesions? What? Why wasn’t I informed of THAT side effect?

Stops birth control.

Has to deal with period again.

Masses don’t look cancerous according to scans (thank GOD), but if you wait they could turn cancerous.

Multiple follow up scans and appointments.

Oh they didn’t shrink and they’re actually so large they could burst at any point? Hooray… :-/

Surgery recommended asap.

And that’s the story of how me, a 33 year old, is being scheduled for a very invasive surgery to have liver masses removed next week.

It still doesn’t feel real.

But it explains so much.

I’m praying it fixes all of my issues.

I’m scared.

Relieved for any kind of answer.

But scared.
